她開玩笑說 it costs us an arm and a leg,果然就得到善意回應。

[幽默說法]ALL the world and his wife Love its innovation.(任誰都愛死它的創新。)

ALL the world and his wife know you got increased pay today!

情境2 向客戶暗示,競爭對手售價太超過時……[嚴肅說法]Don’t you think it is very expensive?(你不覺得它很貴嗎?)[幽默說法]Don’t you think it wiLcost you an arm and a leg!(你不覺得它貴得要命嗎?)解析:cost somebody an arm and a leg的字面意思是要花掉「某人的一隻手加一條腿」,生動說明代價有多高。

例句:The apartment costs me an arm and a leg.soIhave no money to travel.

情境3 向客戶強調,我方說到做到時……[嚴肅說法]We wilI do what we promise.(我們會實踐承諾。)[幽默說法]We wilI put our money where our mouth is.(我們會言行一致、心口如一。)解析:to put one’s money where one’s mouth is字面上是「把錢放進嘴裡」的明確動作,延伸為「實踐承諾」之意,不僅傳神,更帶點趣味感。

例句:I’ve been promjsing to offer you a job.Now I am putting my money where my mouth is.
